about.born in 1990 where the massive sognefjord meets the mountains, jostein grew up on a small farm in lærdal, playing the piano instead of football. while in his late teens, studying jazz piano, he became frustrated with the limitations of the piano sound and started exploring the vast world of electronic sound. he stumbled upon the fivrel sound while playing on his childhood piano a late night in the summer of 2010; minimalistic patterns blended in quiet, speaking voices, soft melodies and warming basses. fivrel’s first full-length album the drawing board is released in march 2016 on demerara records. the album features a new kind of composition, so-called sampler fugues, where several complex piano pieces are composed from a single line of recorded music, using only a simple sampler. it also has larger electronic pieces, in the spirit of the earlier fivrel ep. you can order the drawing board from itunes or amazon. fivrel ep was released to critical acclaim in early 2011. «gull, herregud», featuring on the demerara records compilation this is tomorrow calling is the first track released from the upcoming album the drawing board, set for release in early 2016. written about fivrel ep: «I recommend it.
